Behind the scenes of a Brighton engagement shoot
It’s always a great start to your wedding build up to meet your photographer and have some shots done. But the very thought of having a pre wedding shoot makes some people want to run a mile. A quick look behind the scenes of a Sussex engagement shoot might help to alleviate some of those worries.
Camera shy
I am camera shy – I get it. Which is why it’s even more important to have a pre wedding shoot. It enables you to get a feel for what it’s like to have a camera close by. And this is as close by as it’s going to get. My approach on your wedding day won’t be to follow you around all day with a lens up to your face. It will be a much more relaxed documentary approach where I won’t be telling you to look a certain way.
Prompts not posing
I try not to be too ‘posey’ and in your face during these shoots. I mainly get you both to interact with each other. One approach is to have you walking along hand in hand with me in front or behind you. I want you to be talking and laughing with each other and certainly not looking at me. If it’s not walking together, as in this shoot with Bec and Dan, I just want you be sitting and again interacting with each other. This is when I can get a real sense of you both and can capture as authentically as I can, exchanges between the two of you.
Getting to know me
The final huge benefit of a pre wedding shoot is the time spent with your photographer. In fact in most cases it almost becomes less about the photos and more about the chat we have. This is invaluable for when you have me there on the day as it will hopefully feel like an old friend and someone you are comfortable to have around.
These pre wedding photos with Dan and Bec were taken on clifftop pathway overlooking Saltdean beach and beyond. A stunning place to be at golden hour and actually any time of day!
