Why you should print your wedding photos

It’s something you may hear photographers talk about a lot. And it’s not so we can make more money! It’s a genuine plea and passion to get across to clients that turning your images into prints is the best thing you can do. I once read that an image doesn’t become a photo until it’s printed. And I can’t help but agree. We’ve become so accustomed to seeing everything in its digital form that it just feels normal. For me, there’s a sadness wrapped around that, and an injustice! Read on to find out why you should print your wedding photos.

It feels different

You photos will come to life if you get prints. This is obviously coming from someone who is passionate about, and values, photography – but it’s not just about taking the photos it’s about reliving it again and again. You can only really do that if you have the print version. Whether it’s in a frame, an album, on your fridge. It feels so different to see them in this way compared to scrolling on a screen. It’s like a daily dose of nostalgia.

A whole new light

Did you know that on a digital screen you’re not actually seeing the real deal? The printed version is sharper, more defined and higher resolution. It also doesn’t have the back light that seeing your photos on a screen does. So until you see your photos in print, you’re not actually seeing the real deal.

Documentary photography

The way I approach and shoot weddings means you will get a gallery stacked with photos that give off tonnes of feeling. All those real moments that can just get lost in your 500+ gallery. Documentary photography by design will help you remember how the day felt. I’m sure there is some science behind this… you connect more to a real life photo and it triggers more positive emotions. Who doesn’t want that when you’ve spent ££££ on a photographer to capture all these once in a lifetime shots!

Keep those memories safe

Yup, it happens, technical mishaps happen. If you’re keeping all your wedding photos on a laptop, phone or even external hard drive, it can all go wrong. Which us why us photographers will also back up wedding photos on more than one hard drive. A while ago I had to couple email me 5 years after their wedding. The basement where they kept their hard drives was flooded. Bye bye wedding photos. Literally, getting prints is safer than technology which has an unpredictable shelf life.

Where to print

Ok so hopefully you’re convinced now that getting some prints is the way forward. The next thing I know people worry about is the cost. And I get that. But it seems a real shame and worse than that, not worth it, to print on the cheap. You’ve invested a lot of money in getting your wedding photographer and prints done cheaply just won’t reflect the quality of their work – ie YOUR wedding photos. They will fade quickly over time, curl and won’t even have the right colour tones. The standard of everything will be low – ink, paper, the process. A professional printing lab is really the only place you should be looking to get prints. Don’t compromise on quality. It doesn’t make sense!

Most photographers – including me of course – offer a printing service. And we make it easy for you. When you receive your gallery it’s straightforward to just select the prints you want, the size, frame or not, mounted, enlarged, canvas etc etc, and all the work is done for you. It’s a no brainer. Get those prints!
