This gorgeous couple arrived from Australia only a few weeks before their wedding day. Having tied the knot legally in Brisbane, their home town, this born and bred British couple wanted to celebrate with friends and family in the UK. Wedding photography in Alfriston is a dream… quaint alleyways, beautiful countryside and a high street full of charm and character at every turn. It feels like going back in time (minus the cars and the people!).

Ceremony

Kirsty and Mike decided to have their celebration ceremony at The Sussex Ox pub just outside of Alfriston. Having already done the legals it meant they could make it personal and involve family to lead the ceremony. This pub is superb and known for its food as well as glorious views of the South Downs. The gardens are perfect for a wedding party, especially with little ones as there’s stacks of space. With a pop up marquee it leaves you to use your creative touch and decorate as you like.

One of Mike’s brothers played the guitar when Kirsty entered the marquee and another took the ceremony. He read a touching and funny story about Kirsty and Mike, how they met and everything they’ve done together since. After exchanging rings and personal vows (cue tears among family!) we went out into the garden for drinks (until the heavens opened).

Alfriston village

While chatting to Kirsty and Mike on email in Australia, the one thing they really wanted was some typical English village photos. Ideally not in the rain. July 22nd turned out to be one of the wettest days of the summer so far but somehow the gods were kind for the half hour walkabout in Alfriston. The bad weather must’ve helped minimise the crowds but there was a bit of traffic halting while we got the shots walking through the high street with the beautiful centuries old architecture surrounding them. A walk around the back of the high street to the infamous white bridge and back and we managed to nail – almost rain free – the photos they wanted!

Sussex ox reception

Kirsty and Mike welcomed evening guests for their celebration back at the pub (after the most DELICIOUS food). It was a lovely low key laid back wedding to be a part of. Congratulations again guys and all the best for your travels back Down Under with your gorgeous son Jackson!
