Speeches before the meal?
It’s a topic that comes up time again when planning your wedding. And it’s an important one to consider. Speeches before the meal are becoming more and more popular. And here’s why I think it’s a good idea.
Get those nerve inducing commitments out of the way!
This is absolutely my number one reason to do speeches first. If I was doing a speech and it was something I was nervous about I would definitely want to get it out of the way. In fact it would probably mar my meal experience, I would have to hold back on the drink and essentially not be able to fully relax knowing I was going to have to deliver a speech to a room full of people! So, put your loved ones out of their misery and do the speeches before the food.
The one caveat there though – make sure your guests aren’t starving. There’s nothing worse than sitting down to eat and then have to sit through an hour of speeches. So either ensure the canopies were plentiful and or have some bread on the table.
Your tables will look better
Imagine a night out at a bar or restaurant – by the end of the night the tables don’t look quite as pretty as they did at the start right? Same goes for your wedding. All the thought and effort that goes into setting up your wedding tables means it’s something worth photographing. Rather than having lots of empty wine bottles, messy plates and stained table cloths, your photographs will look a MILLION times better if taken at the start of the evening during speeches.
Your photographer will be refuelled and ready to go!
From a photographer’s perspective this is often the preferred option. So a more selfish reason yes, but it gives those shoulders and backs a bit more down time to refuel and be ready to hit the dance floor to capture all those brilliant evening moments that are about to unfold.
