Tearful bride holds hand up to groom to kiss

North Mymms fusion wedding

This was a stunning North Mymms fusion wedding. Held over two day, Aanya and Alexander were surrounded by friends and family and made the most of every minute of every day. It was an honour and privilege to be a part of it.

day one

On day one the traditional Haldi ceremony was held. The Haldi ceremony is an Indian pre-wedding event believed to bestow blessings on the couple. Turmeric (haldi), oil and water are applied to both the bride and groom. This light-hearted ceremony is both fun and symbolic. In Indian culture turmeric is known for its anti-inflammatory and other healing properties. Aanya and Alexander wore traditional yellow colour for the event – typically chosen to help wash out turmeric from clothes afterwards. As the ceremony progressed so did the playfulness. Before long there was a race to apply the turmeric to the couple in the quickest time. I loved watching this brilliant spectacle with huge amounts of giggles and laughter. The bar had been set! Aanya changed for the evening into a stunning light pink and gold dress. At was as if she knew there was going to be a spectacular golden hour…

Day two

The festivities kicked off with a civil ceremony at the historical and beautiful North Mymms Park Long Gallery. Over 160 of the couple’s friends and family gathered to help them celebrate their wedding. Aanya looked absolutely stunning as she walked down the long aisle with her father. Both families watched on full of emotion and smiles. Two of the younger members of the wedding party read a lighthearted poem all about marriage which was both touching and endearing. Both Aanya and Alex looked so happy and relaxed during the ceremony (at least from the outside!). Following the civil ceremony Aanya changed into yet another stunning outfit before starting the Hindu ceremony under the Mandap (wedding altar).

mendap

The wedding mendap was on an elevated platform and the couple were joined by their parents and the ceremony officiant. In the centre of the mendap a fire burns to signify the viability of the ceremony while offerings are made. Aanya wore traditional red which symbolises commitment and fertility. As the photos also show, the jai mala is a garland comprised of strung flowers that is exchanged between the newlyweds. This really was a visual feast. This evening partying was spectacular with everyone young and old getting involved. The highlight was a young boy demonstrating awesome Michael Jackson moves!

It really was a huge honour to be Aanya and Alexander’s photographer for the two days. Having a fusion wedding at North Mymms Park is simply the perfect venue. Both families were incredibly welcoming and friendly and the love between the happy couple was palpable. What an occasion to be a part of.
