4 reasons why you should invest in a wedding album

I always remember an esteemed photographer saying ‘a photo remains an image unless you see in its printed form’. I believe professional photos are taken to be printed. They won’t survive for long on a phone or USB or hard drive. But they will live on for generations on paper. No matter what happens with technology, a wedding album will never become obsolete. You’ll never have to worry about not having an internet connection to connect to an online gallery or a USB (or a device that takes one!) They’ll always be there to hold, admire and cherish. However, I realise that budgets for weddings can skyrocket when you’re paying out for everything in one go. You might have found your photographer but then there could be lots of packages to choose from – and some that include albums. So, are they worth the cost? Read on to discover 4 reasons why you should invest in a wedding album.

1. something physical you can touch

Couples who do chose an album wax lyrical about how nice it is have something physical to touch. When it comes to seeing photos from their wedding day having 600+ images on a hard drive, or scrolling through them all on your phone, just isn’t the same as seeing the highlights printed out on high quality paper. Unplug yourself from your screen and see what a great job your professional photographer has done by seeing your pics in all their glory. There is just something very special about a high quality album. Professionally made, they use a variety of covers from leather, faux leather, linen and vinyl. The options are varied and this is something you can discuss with your photographer or even better, see samples of. I prefer to use a UK supplier and Henley Albums excel in producing high quality albums.

2. it will last a lot longer and look better than any online and high street made album

Of course it is possible for couples to get their album designed by themselves on their phone or laptop. However the difference between a professionally made album and online retailer is huge. Plus the time is takes to choose the photos and design the album yourself. A photographer will have experience of this and can layout the images in a creative and story-telling way. All you need to do is choose your favourites through your online gallery and your photographer will do the rest.

3. something to treasure

In this digital age we are so used to seeing everything on a screen and leaving it there. An album will live on for years. This isn’t just something for you both to enjoy but also future generations and friends too. If children come on the scene it’s also a gorgeous item for them to look through – when they take an interest! It just wins over digital images. Every.time.

4. a beautiful story from your day

Us photographers like to take a lot of photos. Some weddings generate up to 800 shots. That can be an overwhelming amount of images to look through on your online gallery. An average album contains about 100 images. This means the story from your day can be told in a less daunting way, yet records all the super important moments: the morning prep, seeing your partner for the first time, any ‘giving away’ moments by family or friends, the laughter, the tears, the first kiss, dance. It a stunning visual highlight show of your day produced in a wonderful album.

what about the cost?

The often defining factor for people is cost, and understandably so. Most photographers will have a set price for an album and this can increase depending on the number of pages you want. And each photographer will price their albums differently. In my album package I offer a 20 page 10×10 album in a cover of your choice. This adds £400 onto the price of the full day package. For more information or to chat about prints and albums after your wedding day (it’s not something you have to decide at the time of booking) then don’t hesitate to get in touch.
